Diary Event

The final of this year's Richard Long Salvers Knock out Cup was contested by Stephen Powell/Stephen Whiteside, and Anthony Smith/Julian (Jules) Emeny. A close morning 18 ended with the two Stephen's holding a 2 hole advantage. In the afternoon, on the front 9 there were more holes won and lost than halved. The two Stephen's extending their advantage to 4 holes after the 11th. Anthony and Jules won the 12th and 13th to bring the deficit back to 2. Holes 14, 15, and 16 were halved leaving Anthony & Jules needing to win the 17th and 18th to take the match into extra holes. Anthony hit a magnificent drive straight down the 17th fairway leaving Jules a short pitch into the green. The two Stephen's found trouble off the tee and could only manage to find the semi-rough 180 yards away after 3 shots. Playing into the low sun Stephen Powell hit a hybrid towards the green unable to see where the ball landed due to the sun. Jules hit his chip to about 17ft and as the four players reached the green the two Stephen's ball was nowhere to be seen. After looking for a couple of minutes, the two Stephen's decided to look in the hole, low and behold the ball was nestling at the button of the cup. Anthony now needed to hole his putt to extend the match, the putt just slid by giving victory to the two Stephen's by 2 & 1. An unusual but exciting end to the match.
The final was the two Stephen's 19th foursomes match of the year, having also played a number of matches in this year's Thursday League. They finished the year with 16 victories, 2 halves, and 1 defeat.
